Coaching and psychedelics: a beneficial partnership?

We’re excited to share the publication of a paper that’s been years in the making—co-created in deep collaboration and friendship with fellow coaches Yannick Jacob and Marcel Braun. Our article, “Coaching and Psychedelics: A Beneficial Partnership?”, is now published in the Oxford Brookes University International Journal of Evidence Based Coaching and Mentoring.

As public awareness around the benefits of psychedelics continues to grow, we see an important opportunity to explore the intersection between coaching psychology and psychedelic integration. This paper bridges the emerging field of psychedelic-assisted coaching with research from positive psychology, mental wellbeing, and personal growth.

Rooted in a broad literature review and grounded in practice, our work argues that psychedelic experiences, beyond their clinical application for treating mental health conditions, hold powerful potential for self-discovery, learning, and transformational growth. We propose that coaching, when trauma-informed and ethically grounded, can offer a safe and effective container to support people before, during, and after their psychedelic journeys.

We explore:

  • Shared motivations for seeking out coaching and psychedelic experiences

  • Common themes such as emotional healing, expanded consciousness, and inner wisdom

  • A framework for ethical psychedelic coaching

  • Key considerations for safety, accountability, and integration

This work contributes to the evolving conversation on how legal psychedelic retreats and non-clinical psychedelic use can be responsibly supported through structured coaching and integration practices.
